WIW - Are cardis really out?

Today my office has rented out a move theater that serves food/drinks while you watch the movie. We are going at lunch. I wanted to wear something that wouldn't be too hot but that would also be cozy in the theater which tends to be cold.

I went for the thin unstructured bf cardi because the dress is cotton and has structure to it. I would usually wear a shrug with something like this but the ability to make the sleeves long was important.

Is this good, too sloppy, too dated?

Dress - Janebonbon
Cardigan - Gap
Shoes - Dansko

On my monitor the colours seem to fight. That dress is so sweet, I think a red or black or green cardi would look better, or a solid brighter blue.

I wear cardis all the time, I don't think they are out -- sometimes a jacket or blazer is too structured and you want a more fluid drape on a layer.

I do wear cardis. Sometimes is just too hot for a blazer, even inside the office.

I love cardigans. How can they ever be "out"? You might need a shorter one for this outfit, one in a color that picks up the dress and hits a little at the waist. That dress is absolutely super on you!

Cardis will never be out - they are a staple imho :)
I agree that you might like a shorter style with the dress though. I like the two pieces on their own very much but not so much proportioned for each other.
How fun to have a movie day at work.

No, and ditto on the shorter ones with dresses, longer ones with pants.

Cardis are not out! I love them :-)

I'm a cardi wearer and doubt they'll ever be out. The styles may change, but wearing them will always be in and the way you wear them (what you pair them with) will determine whether you look outdated or not.

I don't think cardigans are out, but they aren't at the forefront of fashion right now. That certainly doesn't stop me from wearing them, though!

I think your dress might look better with a shorter, slightly more structured one. I also think a cropped denim jacket would look cute. Some of them are so soft and stretchy that they're just as comfy as a cardigan.

Boy, do I know what you mean: movie theaters always so freezing!

Thanks for the feedback. I have lots of other toppers and I do see that a shorter one would have been a better choice with this dress. I'm wearing the dress on its own now and will take the cardi to the movie =)

I hope not because I just bought 3 the other day. I happen to like this blue space knit "print" with the print dress. I think you can get away with the length partly because it's a very light knit here. Good combo in my book, anyway.

Love to see your smiles, Abie.

Like the others, I think the colors and proportions aren't playing just right together here, but cardigans are too classic to ever go "out."

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Ya, I don't think the cardi is a style match with the dress. But it's not a *bad* mismatch. And staying warm is way more a priority. Got to enjoy the movie!

But to answer the question: cardigans are out.

    Mwahahaha!

  • CK replied 11 years ago

Cardigans are classic. They will never be out. :-) That said, I echo what the others have mentioned about the color/length of this particular one with that particular dress. But it's most important to stay warm! Enjoy the movie!

Dress is adorable, cardi looks too long. I love your hair!

    Ditto Alicat ^^^

Have you tried a soft, cropped denim jacket with this dress? I think that would be a good substitute to the cardi. I really am not sure if cardigans are ever really, really out - but I do know that currently they aren't in! Does that answer your question???

  • JR replied 11 years ago

They better not be. I've got one on order...

I didn't think this was the best choice for that dress though, and I see that is the general consensus. Having said that, it's your own fault for getting us accustomed to all your outfits being fabulous. So in your case, fine seems like a let-down... LOL!

  • greenglove replied 11 years ago

I do not think cardigans are out.
I do think the dress is just adorable but the style seems to scream- cropped cardigan or jean jacket.
I think the colors are also not working.
The blue is too pale for the vibrancy of the print dress.
Black would be the easiest fix.

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

They definitely aren't as popular as they were a couple of years ago. It's much harder to find them at the store, although I tried on a really nice version at ON the other day. As everyone else has said, I don't think they will ever be out of style, but blazers seem to have taken over. :-) You look cute in your outfit, btw.

  • ramya replied 11 years ago

Hmmm probably since the amount of blue is very low in the outfit it looks pale... Red would perk this outfit better ....
