WIW - My Hello Kitty Outfit and debut of the Costco pencil skirt

I had my dishwasher door open unloading dishes. Somehow I grazed the corner of the door with my leg and cut it open. It wasn't very deep but I couldn't get it to stop bleeding. First band-aid I've needed in quite a while. I go to get one and all I have is Hello Kitty (I have a 20 month old daughter)

This morning when it was time to get dressed, I realized I was going to be wearing the band-aid and it would be quite visible, so I used it to inspire my outfit and ended up with this pink and purple number.

Top - y new Kiyonna top I got from the recent 40% sale. It's a copy of my black one but in purple.

Skirt - Ellen Tracy pencil skirt from Costco. I really love this skirt. Super comfortable, thick knit, no lining needed. At $16 i could not be more pleased. They have them now. Go Go Go if you want one.

Necklace - Premiere Designs

Shoes - Naturilizer.

oh Abie! You look lovely --- I love how you *always* pick the most flattering colours. That kind of self-knowledge is a real gift when shopping ;-)

And how amazing for your shoes and pendant to match so exactly --- not just colours, but even stripey style!

PS: I have to admit this is the most elegant Hello Kitty outfit I ever saw :-D You had me going for a moment with that post title --- I just didn't know what to expect!

Sorry about your cut but too funny that a Hello Kitty bandaid inspired your outfit! This is gorgeous on you and no one is even going to notice the bandaid because they'll be looking at your gorgeous lace top, fabulous flattering skirt and stunning sandals!

Talk about going with the flow! I love how you paired the pattern and color of the band-aid with your top and shoes :-).

Can you give any sizing hints ont the skirt? I'm on the small side of 18W..... It's super flattering on you and I just donated my black pencil to DFS as it had gotten too big.

You look gorgeous! Hello Kitty's colors are great on you, and that lace top is just so pretty.

You know, if you think about it, HK is actually quite fashion-forward. She was wearing the pink+red combo way before it became fashionable to do so!

    Thanks Everyone =)

Nadya - I usually call myself an 18/20. I think I'm on the upper size of an 18 but sizing is so confusing to me. In dresses for instance at Nordstrom I usually take a 16 plus or 18 in Misses. In pants though sometimes its an 18 and sometimes a 20. In tops sometimes the plus is too big and I have to go to misses.

That being said, I think an XL would probably be your best bet. I am wearing an XXL but I feel I lean closer to a 20 in pants. The only hesitation I would give is at my Costco, they had tons of XLs and only a few XXLs. If yours is like that I'd really recommend grabbing both and returning the one that doesn't fit.

Sorry you got a cut but what a cute story! Love the colors on you and the lace top is so pretty. Love the wedges too.

I have to admit I was hoping for an actual Hello Kitty outfit though! :) We have the same band-aids at our house!

You come up with such catchy titles for your posts! I thought the story was going to be that you went to Costco to buy normal band-aids and found the pencil skirt while you were there, lol!

Well, I love the skirt on you and your outfit inspiration makes me smile. The Hello Kitty band-aids look great next to the sandals! Hope your cut heals fast. :)

Oh that is so hilarious! I have never, ever heard of coordinating an outfit with a band-aid before. And then to pull it off on top of it all... Here's to creativity!

This one knocks it out of the park. Beautifully top and bottom. (Why o' why now did I give up my Costco membership? hehe)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Great skirt! Makes me wish I had a Costco membership... and also that they came in many many colors. :) Can you tell I am one who does not fit the Halogen skirts?

The HK bandaid is adorable - it and the shoes ad a fun and summery touch.

I'm impressed at how you used the bandaid to inspire your outfit. You wear pencil skirts so well - I need to learn how to do the smart casual pencil skirt from you.

That's one fab outfit. I love both the style and the color combo. You really coordinated it well.

I have a 19-year-old DD who still loves all things Hello Kitty. She would love to have band-aids like that, lol! When she made a trip to NM this past May to visit her BFF, she brought back a Hello Kitty telephone she picked up at an antique store. She didn't even know if it would work or not until she got back home and tested it. Luckily for her, it does.
